About

“You need You the most”

The slogan "You Need You the Most" emphasizes the importance of self-care for coaches and support staff. It reminds us that to effectively support our athletes and teams, coaches must prioritize their own mental health and well-being.

By focusing on themselves first, coaches can cultivate resilience, manage stress, and maintain a positive mindset. This, in turn, allows them to create a healthier environment for their athletes, ultimately leading to better performance and stronger relationships. The slogan encourages coaches to recognize that taking the time to care for their mental health is not selfish but rather a necessary step in being the best leader they can be.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Hello! I’m LeAndra Martin, lovingly known as Coach Lee in the basketball world and the founder of The Mental Health Playbook LLC. My mission is to create a mental health platform dedicated to supporting coaches and players at all levels. As a former collegiate basketball coach, my own experiences have inspired me to make a difference, especially during my time off to regroup and reflect after facing some of the toughest challenges in my coaching career.

Throughout my journey, I’ve coached youth basketball for six years, high school for five, and collegiate basketball for three. In these roles, I developed deep connections with my players, many of whom encountered significant mental health concerns. I recognized that coaches often lack the resources needed to navigate these challenging situations. A particularly profound moment for me came when I nearly lost a player during a mental health crisis, which highlighted the urgent need for better support for both coaches and athletes.

I understand how lost and desperate one can feel when there is no one to turn to—no one who truly understands what you are going through or what you need, especially another coach who has experienced similar challenges. This realization fuels my passion for assisting collegiate athletes and coaches at all levels. I believe everyone deserves access to understanding and compassionate guidance on their mental health journey.

I hold certifications in Mental Health First Aid for both youth and adults and am a certified Adult Mental Health First Aid Instructor. I have cultivated a robust network within the athletic community. My outreach efforts, including questionnaires sent to college coaches in Ohio, revealed a common sentiment: many feel unprepared to handle mental health issues effectively.

At The Mental Health Playbook LLC, I am committed to providing resources, training, and a supportive community for coaches and players. I would be immensely grateful for any knowledge, insights, or connections you may have that could help in this mission.

I look forward to connecting with you as we work together to change the culture around mental health in athletics!
